Recently, I attended a dinner in support of a charity. A board member who was seated next to me, asked me the question, “Do you offer family meetings? I am concerned about what the next generation is going to do with their inheritance and I want to share with them what I think is important.”  Philanthropy is great way for families to come together and share values, financial issues and legacy plans. In my experience, few charities are offering a platform for this endeavor. This is a missed opportunity for both charity and their donor families. Offering a family conference around financial issues could be the greatest value added opportunity a charity could offer their donor families. Also, the opportunity for charities to connect with that future generation is being squandered.  If you are not involved in such a project, you should be.
