Early in my business career, I was fortunate to meet and visit with Sir John Templeton. Born in Pulaski, Tennessee, a graduate of Yale, the founder of the Templeton Growth Fund and the Templeton Prize, both of which have survived his death and continue to flourish, he was able to enrich many both financially and spiritually. His world view, developed through experience and study, was expansive and included a belief that the Creator’s work was ongoing and that progress in standards of living and quality of life have been improving throughout history. This led to a generally optimistic view of life. A valuable lesson for me, was to look for the opportunities that problems often present. There is no doubt that problems and challenges exist in this life. Yet this approach to dealing with many of them, that I learned from Sir John, has been invaluable to me.
