I believe that the challenge offered by 2020 has been the ability to adapt to a severely changing environment. I certainly don’t expect the world to stand still, but the events related to the pandemic was on few radar screens. I do recall that Bill Gates mentioned a few years ago that the possibility of a pandemic would our greatest risk going forward. I look for lessons from such events, however. It seems to me that the great lesson from 2020 is that there are events we cannot control and yet we can adapt to them. There is a sailing maxim that you cannot control the direction of the wind, but you can trim the sails. All this is to say that, for the most part, individuals, businesses, and charitable organizations have found ways to pursue their mission, notwithstanding the challenges of the pandemic. We are blessed to have the technology to help us accomplish much of this.
