It is a well-accepted fact that charities serve a dual mandate. On the one hand, there is a mission to accomplish. On the other hand, there is a donor base that makes this all possible. Merging mission with the support needed to accomplish the nonprofit’s goal is the accomplishment of a successful organization. At the core of this success is the fact that mission is achieved as donor objectives are achieved. Donors have multiple and sometimes competing financial objectives. These can many times be successfully addressed through current and planned giving. So discovering what motivates the donor to give is job number 1 for the successful nonprofit.
